District 7 (Formerly Sonny Walker’s & C&S Tavern)

The newest iteration of Boston’s “Black Cheers”, District 7 Tavern (“D7” for short) is located in the heart Roxbury, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Blvd and Warren Street. Like its predecessors, C&S in the 1980s and Sonny Walker’s in the 2000s, D7 seeks to fill a void for black Bostonians and be a gathering place for the community. D7’s owners, both with deep roots in Roxbury and Dorchester, have worked with the Walker’s, the city and the community to ensure that D7 continues to honor the legacy, while bringing D7 to the new generation. A small gem, equidistant between Grove Hall and Dudley Square, in the middle of Boston’s 7th municipal district (the tavern’s namesake), D7 serves the community by providing delicious drinks, televisions to watch sporting events, a jukebox for musical enjoyment, a pool table and live entertainment on select evenings.
